Singapore Sustainability Academy (SSA)

Sustainability has always been deeply rooted in CDL’s heritage. Aside from embedding sustainability in our business, we also saw the opportunity to leverage our track record as a leading green builder to promote sustainability within the community. Tapping on our network of partners and expertise in green buildings, we designed and built the SSA, which opened on World Environment Day, 5 June 2017.

Building a sustainable future requires the collaboration of a larger ecosystem. Designed and built by CDL with industry partners in 2017, the Singapore Sustainability Academy (SSA) is the first ground-up initiative and zero-energy facility in Singapore dedicated to capacity building and thought leadership for climate action. It involves an extensive partnership with six government agencies and 15 industry and NGO partners.

A hub for networking, the SSA provides a platform for industries, youths and the community to share knowledge and build partnerships for a more sustainable future. This includes supporting national environmental and climate plans, such as the Singapore Green Plan 2030, Singapore’s Long-Term Low-Emissions Development Strategy, as well as championing the global achievement of the SDGs.

Since opening in June 2017 till 1H 2023, the Academy has hosted 920 events and training sessions on climate action, green building, renewable energy, and sustainable development.

Registration for Virtual SSA workshops is free. Follow CDL Sustainability on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube to get the latest news.

In addition to using sustainably sourced materials certified by Nature’s Barcode System, the SSA also features 3,200 square feet of solar PV panels on its roof, generating 60,000 kWh per year.

Testimonials
  • SSA is an excellent resource in the heart of Singapore with its mandate to offering a venue, that walks the sustainability talk [being powered by solar, using sustainably timbre in the structure], to not-for-profit sustainable events so that they can take place seamlessly. Accolades to CDL for investing in a facility like SSA that has a mandate to support such events. The CDL team we worked with was proactive, helpful and truly committed to the cause of sustainability

  • The Built Environment Young Leaders Retreat 2018 held at the SSA would not have been a success without the generous support from CDL. We deeply appreciate the partnership and support for future initiatives. In line with SSA’s mission to promote a low carbon economy, resource efficiency and sustainable practices among the youths, we will continue with the strong partnership with CDL in engaging our youths for BuildSG initiatives.

  • The SSA is a conveniently located eco training academy which has provided many groups a comfortable space to host our events. By providing such a physical infrastructure, it has allowed many groups to carry out our capacity building efforts to address climate change. Thank you SSA for the support!

  • The space was perfect for this climate change related talk, and offered a cosy, conducive location for participants to discuss the subject as a collective group. It was a memorable night for all the right reasons! It was comfortable, and the temperature was just right.
